Christ and the Adulteress

In this composition of half-length figures Christ appears in the foreground to the left, casting a look of forgiveness over the people assembled there, to the humble sinner beyond. The ray of light coming from the left emphasises both protagonists. X-ray analysis has confirmed changes in composition, two of which are visible to the naked eye: to the right hand of Christ and also to the sky above the figures.
