1585, Artist: Lucas I. van Valckenborch
The painting depicts all kinds of work in the vineyards: wine casks are being readied, and workers are crushing grapes with their bare feet in a vat. In the middle the everyday scene is lightened by a picnic party, joined by a noble couple, tasting grapes and sweet juice. Although the picture – like the others in the cycle – was probably painted in Linz on a commission from Archduke Matthias, it does not depict specific local landscapes.
