Votive Panel from St. Blasien: Duke Charles V from Lorraine in the Field Camp at Todtmoos

dated 1687 | Johann Georg Glückher

The silver relief was created in thanks for a victory that Duke Charles V of Lorraine achieved over French troops in 1678 in the Black Forest. The imperial general attributed the success to the aid of the miraculous image of Todtmoos. He hence donated this votive panel, in which the miraculous image appears on high, to the pilgrimage church there. From St. Blasien, the panel entered the imperial collections in 1810.
