The marble horse head, another horse head in similar style is existing (inv.no. PA 922) which were made as pure showpieces are already mentioned in the inventory of Archduke Ferdinand II in 1596. In the 18th or 19th century they got a base and an iron top, so they could be used as candlesticks.
