Sleigh harness of the Vienna court
around 1814/1815
This magnificent sleigh harness made of green velvet with elegant Empire decoration reveals fine reliefs of fire-gilded bronze and countless little gilded bells that were standard accoutrement on sleigh harnesses. They helped avoid accidents by attracting the attention of other road users to the sleigh otherwise gliding noiselessly across the snow. (MKR)
