Hunting sleigh of Crown Prince Rudolf

before 1873 | Wenzel Schwanzer

"Gassel" is the German name given to one-seater sleighs which could be driven by the hunter himself sitting astride. As small manoeuvrable vehicles they were especially suitable for sporting trips at high speeds. This gassel sleigh which belonged to Crown Prince Rudolf is a particularly original example of its type. The runners and supports are decorated with staghorn and thereby emphasise the sleigh's function as a sporty hunting vehicle.
