Portrait of a Young Lady

around 1540 | Brescia

Although the portrait is one of the most attractive of North Italy of the 16th century, brilliant both in terms of artistry and colouring, its creator remains unknown: Venetian origins can be detected in the idealised depiction of a young, beautiful woman who in her dreamy mood, her pensive facial expression points back to Giorgione and Palma Vecchio. Lombardian style can be seen in the sober observation of reality and the glowing colouring which moves towards pastel-silvery.
