Palace Architecture with Distinguished Visitors

about 1596 | Hans Vredeman de Vries

The series was created during Vredeman’s stay at the court in Prague. His son Paul Vredeman was also involved in its execution, while the figures – with one exception – were created by the court painter in Prague van Ravesteyn. Hans Vredeman was one of the most influential theoreticians of his day. In his masterly architectural fantasies, the painter, who had studied the classic principles of Serlio and Vitruvius, put the theories of perspective into practice.
