Lidded Tankard

Due to a legal exception by the city of Venice, Archduke Ferdinand II was able to summon glassblowers from Murano to Innsbruck from 1570. There they created drinking glasses which, due to their high quality, are scarcely distinguishable from Venetian products. At most the forms, with their rich decoration in engraved diamond-point technique and gold and coloured lacquer painting, are characteristic of the glass workshops at the Innsbruck court.
