Beeing very rare specimens, preciously decorated coconut shells were exhibited in Renaissance and Baroque collections of art and wonders. First of all, they were regarded as exoticas and as magic objects as well. Especially in the 17th century, naturalias were mounted in gold and silver in Augsburg or Nuremberg. These precious pieces were in use as table decoration or presented on princely sideboards.
