The embodied artist - Cellini's ‘Vita’ as the founding text of an art history of corporeality
10 April 2025
Lecture by Andreas Beyer, University of Basel
(in German language)

Andreas Beyer's lecture is dedicated to the famous goldsmith and sculptor Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571), creator of the Saliera in the Kunstkammer of the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
At the centre of the evening is the artist's autobiography, with which he achieved even greater fame than with his expressive works.
The autobiography makes it possible to understand Cellini's creations in the immediate context of the reality of his life and his mental and physical states: a plea for art history as “artist's history”!
