Cruets are small vessels used for containing the wine and water required for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. They have a V (=Vinum) on the wine and an A (=aqua) on the water cruet. Since the 12th century they had always been produced in pairs. The bowl has two footprints for the cruets, decorated with the monograms of St. Mary and Christ (IHS). The artist’s monogram ICL refer to Johann Christoph Laminets of Memmingen.
