Portrait of a Young Woman at her Toilette

Bordone places himself here in the Venetian tradition of female idealised portraits which had been founded and developed by Bellini, Titian and Palma Vecchio. However, the delicate girl type shows three features of a later Venetian form of painting, Mannerism: the more overt idealisation in the style of antiquity, the more powerful body modelling suggestive of a male, and the artificially elaborate hair arrangement.
