The stiff frontality of the posture and the elegant dress, which is tightly closed but loaded down with jewellery, are in keeping with the indignant, almost defiant expression of this young girl, as though she were unwilling to reveal anything about herself. This alone makes it tempting to believe that this is a portrait of the daughter of the painter; artists daughters were often forced to be models for their fathers.
