The horn, as well as two combs in the Ambras collection, made of tortoise shell are decorated with a fine silver filigree. They might have been made in Goa. Such objects are very rare today. They are already mentioned in the inventory of the Kunstkammer of Rudolf II in Prague of 1607–1611.The mouthpiece of this fragmentary horn made of tortoise shell is missing. Together with three others this horn was already mentioned in the Ambras inventory of 1596.
