Gadroon Cup, so-called Dürer Cup
ca. 1500
Gadroon cups are typical examples of German Late Gothic and Renaissance goldsmiths’ work. They take their name from the gadroons embossed on their sides. Reflecting light better than plane surfaces, they enhance the cup’s visual effect. As a drawing by Albrecht Dürer depicts shapes very similar to this cup, it was named for him.
