Elephantine stele of King Amenhotep II
18th Dynasty, Year 3 of Amenhotep II, ca. 1451 BC
Very probably the stele originally stood in the Temple of Khnum on Elephantine. The low er part is nowadays in Cairo’s Egyptian Muse um. Amenhotep II is represented with various gods – Khnum, the goddess Satet, Amun, and Anukis. The inscription mentions a victorious campaign of the king to Syria and the erec tion of the stele in the 3rd year of his reign.
