A Stroll in the Garden

about 1632 | Dirck Hals

Like his contemporary Esias van de Velde, Dirck Hals, the younger brother of Frans Hals, specialised in depicting the world of the highest social class, but in scenes that reflected more his imagination than reality. His pictures are also marked by a cheerfully colourful coloration that was characteristic of the 1620s. A short time later, however, it was supplanted by uniformly monochrome colouring.
