Become active yourself

Variety is guaranteed: in addition to the close examination of originals, you can get very close to the art using high-resolution images, X-ray images and the like.

Appropriate comparative examples help to place the objects in larger art and cultural-historical contexts and to build a bridge to the present day. Short assignments and simple practical tasks invite students to become active themselves.

A person wearing a red shirt is sketching in a notebook while facing a large painting on the wall. The artwork features dynamic figures and expressive postures, conveying a sense of movement. The setting appears to be an art gallery or museum.

Seeing more together

A group of people inside a museum are gazing upward with expressions of interest and admiration. The scene conveys a sense of engagement and appreciation for the artwork displayed above them. The individuals are diverse in appearance and seem captivated by their surroundings.

In addition, the academy format allows participants to engage in conversation with other art enthusiasts: Working in small groups of max. 15 people per course provides space for looking at art together, your own thoughts, discussions and questions.

The course materials include summaries, literature tips and further suggestions for independent in-depth study!

Color rush

The motto of this first academy is “Color Rush”.
In five seminar units, you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about color.

What made a masterpiece in the eyes of Renaissance scholars - composition or color?
Were the same colors considered beautiful in Ancient Egypt as in 17th century Amsterdam?
What were colors made of in the past?
How complex is their production and how much do they change over time?
Can works of art be attributed to specific artists based on the application of paint alone?
And what actually constitutes the “value” of the colors?
A close-up portrait of a woman with long, wavy light brown hair, wearing a red garment. She gazes down thoughtfully, with a serene expression. A faint halo surrounds her head, and a soft landscape is visible in the background. The artwork conveys a sense of calm and introspection.
Four figures surround a central woman who appears distressed, with one figure supporting her. The scene conveys a sense of urgency and emotion, depicting themes of care and concern among the group as they engage with the woman in the center.

Florence or Venice?
Disegno or colore?

Questions that divided opinion in the 16th century. We take a stand together!

On the trail of lost color: Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt were more colorful than expected …

A weathered stone sculpture depicts a man and a woman standing side by side. The man, dressed in a short skirt with distinct hairstyle, shows a strong stance, while the woman, in a long dress with arms slightly raised, appears to lean towards him, symbolizing companionship.
A tall, ancient stone statue of a muscular man stands upright. He has a stylized beard and long, braided hair, wearing a draped garment. The figure's expression is serious, and he holds his arms at his sides, symbolizing strength and presence.
A close-up of a hand holding a slender, dark wand, positioned against a background of a pink and gray ruffled dress adorned with intricate patterns. The dress has delicate details, emphasizing elegance and formality.
A close-up portrait of a young girl with curly hair and blue eyes. She has a serious expression on her face and is wearing a dress adorned with a dark pattern. A pink ribbon is visible in her hair, adding a touch of color to the image.

How are paintings created? And what makes the painting style of certain artists so special?

We take a close look at picture composition and brushstrokes!

How time-consuming is
the production of colors?
Try it out for yourself!

A person wearing a black hat and a striped shirt is seen from behind, painting blue flowers on a canvas. The background features an easel and patterned artworks, suggesting an artist's studio. The focus is on the act of painting.

Surrender to the intoxication of colors and get to know art from a new perspective.
We look forward to your participation in the academy format!
