Die gemeinsam vom Palastmuseum und dem Kunsthistorischen Museum kuratierte Ausstellung zeigt 76 Meisterwerke in einem integrierten Präsentationsformat. Im Dialog mit Werken aus der Kunstkammer beleuchten sie die Ästhetik des chinesischen Hoflebens im 18. Jahrhundert und zeigen somit Parallelen und Kontraste zwischen Ost und West in ihren künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen.

Die meisten Exponate, darunter kaiserliche Jadeschnitzereien und Porzellanschätze, werden zum ersten Mal in Europa gezeigt.
