Three ancient Egyptian papyrus bundle columns in Vienna
23 February 2022
Lecture with curator Michaela Hüttner
(in German language)

The first two large halls of the Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection are not only characterised by wallpaper depicting paintings from a tomb in Middle Egypt, but also by a total of three original papyrus bundle columns, each around 6 metres high. How did these columns come to be installed? Where did they originally come from? In which temple were they installed? Which ancient Egyptian kings were immortalised on the columns? These and other questions will be answered in the lecture.
