The Bamberg imperial robes

8 July 2022

Lecture by Carola Marie Schmidt, Director of the Bamberg Diocesan Museum
(in German language)

The Bamberg imperial robes are considered to be the oldest surviving textiles in the context of European rulers. These are six magnificent robes from the first quarter of the 11th century. This unique collection of embroidered silk robes forms the cornerstone of a world-famous textile collection. In recent years, the latest research into textile technology, history and art history has led to new findings.
