Restoration of the historical wall and ceiling paintings in the Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection
16 February 2021
Lecture by Regina Hölzl
(in German language)

On the walls of the Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection are reproductions of wall paintings from a tomb of a bishop in Middle Egypt. They were made for the Vienna World Exhibition in 1873, as an enlarged replica of the tomb was exhibited there. In this online lecture, Egyptologist Regina Hölzl presents how the painted cardboard panels were used to decorate the Egyptian display rooms of the Kunsthistorisches Museum. As they have not been extensively restored or cleaned since the museum opened in 1891, this is now set to happen in 2021.
Daniel Uchtmann, art historian and art educator at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, will host the evening.
