Ottoman Impressions – Turkish-style Arms & Armour in Renaissance Europe

In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Ottomans successfully conquered large areas of land. In Europe, this expansion aroused an unprecedented interest in Ottoman - or “Ottoman-style” - weapons, armour and everyday objects. This lecture will focus on the collection, exchange and exhibition of Turkish militaria, the increasing production of armour and weapons in the Turkish style and the contexts in which these objects were used.
