Donnerstagabend im Museum

9 October 2024

Lecture by Martin Hirsch, Director of the State Coin Collection Munich
(in German language)

Lecture by Martin Hirsch, Director of the Staatliche Münzsammlung München as part of the Kunsthistorisches Museum's special exhibition Prunk & Prägung - Die Kaiser und ihre Hofkünstler (Kunstkammer from 13 February to 13 October 2024 and in the Münzkabinett from 13 February 2024 to 26 October 2025).

Elaborate small pieces of furniture for the coin collections were created at the courts of Ambras and Munich before and after 1600. Not only are they among the most precious pieces of furniture of their time, their pictorial programmes also provide unique insights into the appreciation of old coins and the collecting culture of the royal houses.

The lecture by Martin Hirsch, Director of the State Coin Collection in Munich, will shed impressive light on the significance and history of these valuable pieces.
