Marsyas and Apoll: »the torture never stops«

3 October 2023

Reading by Jürgen Egyptien
(in German language)

At the centre of this Thursday evening with Jürgen Egyptien (writer and literary scholar) is the Marsyas Meander, a lyrical sequence of scenes that shapes the myth of the musical contest between the satyr Marsyas and the god Apollo. The focus is on the perspective of the satyr, who is maltreated by the victorious god. In some lyrical scenes, reference is made to the pictorial representation of the motif. The other half of the reading offers poems that take a new look at paintings in the permanent exhibition of the Kunsthistorisches Museum and have emerged from encounters with Austrian literature and personal relationships with Vienna.
