Lives of Women in Cinquecento Venice

15 November 2021

Lecture by Anna Bellavitis

How did women live in 16th century Venice? Whether they were patricians or citizens, historical sources provide us with fragments of their lives that reveal their aspirations, wishes, projects and disappointments: Wills, marriage contracts, employment contracts, but also polemical writings, letters and denunciations. The lecture provides an insight into the sources and reports on what historical research has discovered from them in recent years.
