Heimkehr: the poetry of return
A lecture by Edmund de Waal, with an introduction by Jonathan Fine, Director General of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, in English, in the Bassano Hall of the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

A decade after presenting his curated exhibition, During the Night (2016) at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Edmund de Waal will present an illustrated talk speaking to creative forms of restitution and his own practice with particular focus on his library of exile project which toured from Venice to Dresden and London (2019–2021) and Lettres à Camondo, a book written during lockdown and an exhibition shown at the Musée Camondo, Paris (2021–2022).
He will also discuss his family’s recent regaining of their Austrian citizenship following a change in the law for descendants of Austrians persecuted by National Socialism and left stateless before and in the aftermath of the Anschluss.
