Introduction & moderation by Antonia Bobik, Kunsthistorisches Museum
Countless, often lavishly decorated suits of armour have survived in the Imperial Armoury in Vienna. Unlike the armour from Ambras Castle, no historical inventories are known for the Viennese collection that would allow them to be assigned to their original owners. Apart from the old tales, some clues provide interesting insights into the self-presentation of the Habsburgs, who wanted to attract attention at every festival in an innovative suit of armour.
