Giovanni da Udine's contribution to the Vatican tapestry series
24 January 2024
Lecture by Larissa Mohr, Institute for Art History
(in German language)

As was so often the case in early modern art production, Raphael's tapestry series of the Acts of the Apostles was also created with the participation of his workshop. Particularly noteworthy is the role of Giovanni da Udine, a specialist in animal and plant studies, who made a significant contribution to the composition of the Miraculous Procession of Fishes with the cranes. The lecture will use surviving preparatory drawings to shed light on Giovanni da Udine's contribution to the design of this and other series for the Vatican, such as the Giochi di Putti.
