666 Greek numerical magic as the key to the riddle of revelation

14 July 2021

Lecture by Hans Taeuber
(in German language)

For thousands of years, mankind has been puzzled by the riddle of the Revelation of John, more precisely: the biblical passage Rev 13,18, where the identity of a diabolical monster as a human being is indicated by the number 666. To solve the riddle, one must use the Greek number system, in which each letter of the alphabet also represents a numerical value; one can therefore encode any name by forming the sum of the numerical values of its letters. A new proposal for identifying the ‘monster’ can be presented on the basis of recent epigraphic findings, including the analysis of Ephesian graffiti, and using modern computer science methods.
