St. Justina, Venerated by a Donor

In front of an expansive landscape the figure of St. Justina stands, patron saint of Padua, with her attribute, the unicorn, and the donor kneeling to her left, gazing up at her in adoration. In his works of this phase, Moretto superimposes a cool tone of silver on the Venetian colouring. While Moretto is considered the “Raphael of North Italy” due to his balanced, harmonious compositions, he also resembles the great master in his search for the most graceful forms of expression.
