Schönbrunn Palace: Garden Side

In the foreground are the lower gardens with their structure of decoratively designed lawns, framed on either side by clipped rows of trees. In the background on the right is a view of Vienna with the suburbs. Against the hills in the background one can see the towers of the Piarist Church behind the suburb of Mariahilf with the Mariahilf Church and Esterházy Palace, then the inner city surrounded by walls and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, further to the right the Karlskirche (Church of St. Charles Borromeo) and at the right edge of the painting the Upper Belvedere Palace.
