This armour is part of a set of eight armours for the Plankengestech (Italian joust of peace, with the tilt), also called the Welsches Gestech (lit. »Italian joust«); originally belonging to an ensemble of twelve equal armours for the joust over the tilt. They were formed by Jakob Topf, who was court armourer of Archduke Ferdinand II from 1575 onwards. The weight of each suit is about 30 kg.
