Reliquary Bust of a Holy Bishop

early 15th c., with later additions

The head of the bust originally contained relics. For a Gothic reliquary, the depiction of the unknown bishop is unusually individualized. The bust may have been made in Prague, where sculptors from the Parler family created comparably lifelike portraits at the time of the Luxembourg Emperor Charles IV and King Wenceslas.
