Ornamental Tazza
1st half 17th c.
Several of the cabinets in the 17th century imperial treasury were filled with vessels made from precious materials. The position and significance of the house of Habsburg was demonstrated particularly emphatically in these display pieces – which were partly commissioned and partly received as gifts. The multipartite facing with cameos, pearls, gemstones and the newly-established enamel painting determines the richly patterned appearance of many of these works.
