Lobkowitz Square in Vienna

Of the buildings which surround Lobkowitz Square, only Palais Lobkowitz, constructed in 1685–87, remains today. The Dorotheum now stands on the site once occupied by the Dorotheerkirche, the high Gothic roof of which is visible behind the Palais. The back part of the square is bordered by the Capuchin Monastery garden wall. In those days the low roofs behind the square afforded an unimpeded view of St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
