Family group of Itj-ef, his wife, son, and daughter

6th Dynasty, ca. 2374-2191 BC

The couple’s children are depicted nude – as usual in Egypt. The boy’s youth lock, like his gesture of a finger to his mouth, is also typical for representations of children. The large open space between the figures of his seated parents is however unusual; normally there is a bridge linking figures seated side by side.
