Cruciform Pendant Watch

ca. 1600 | Konrad Kreizer

The inventory of the Prague Kunstkammer lists some sixty mechanical clocks in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. As a rule they display not only the time but also, for example, the position of the sun in the zodiac, the length of days and nights, the number of days since the last full moon, the date and day of the week and the best time for bloodletting. Many of Rudolf II’s clocks feature moveable figures and entertaining surprises.
