Colossal head from a royal statue
reigns of Ptolemy I–III, 305–222 BC
This head and a second, identical one (ÄS 79) belonged to a pair of colossal sculptures depicting the king. They were probably standing statues with a height of from three to four meters. The pair may have stood in front of the pylon of a temple at Alexandria. The facial features are typical for Ptolemaic times.
