Clock with Wooden Case

dated 1572 | Jan Taborsky

Archduke Ferdinand II kept numerous devices for measuring time in his Kunstkammer, including this clock. It is among the earliest examples of its type. The dial plates show the hour, a mechanically driven astrolabe determines the position of the sun in the zodiac and the phase of the moon. A predecessor of the monumental clock from the Prague Old Town Hall may have served as a model.
