Centrepiece, “The Ruins of Paestum”

The multi-piece centrepiece with models of the three large antique temples of Paestum was made for Maria Karolina, a daughter of Maria Theresa who was married to the king of Naples and Sicily Ferdinand IV/III. The ensemble had already reached Emperor Francis I by 1808 as a gift. In the centre are two elephants with sirens bearing portraits of the Neapolitan royal family.
