Baboon

500-400 BC

The baboon, like the ibis, was revered as the embodiment of the god Thoth, patron deity of scribes. When the deceased’s soul was weighed on judgment day he recorded the results. In the Late Period, sacred baboons were worshipped especially at Hermopolis-Magna in Middle Egypt.
