Automaton with the Triumph of Bacchus

ca. 1602/06 | Hans Schlottheim

The automatons made by Hans Schlottheim are among the most ingenious mechanical devices of their time. The carriage and individual figures move to the music played by an organ works inside. The automaton was probably also used in a drinking game: the billy goat’s head can be removed and used as a cup.
