Auszug Jakobs nach Kanaan

around 1635 | Andrea di Leone

Jacob, son of Isaac, as reported in the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, was in the service of his uncle Laban in Mesopotamia for many years; he had many children with Laban’s daughters Lea and Rachel. By skill and cunning he made himself and his uncle wealthy. Finally, he secretly returned with all his possessions – albeit at God’s command – to the country of his forefathers. The idyllic landscape represents a type considered to be antique, whereby the overall composition is designed in a general way, while individual details are highly realistic.
