Artillery Gunsight with Calibration Rod

ca. 1595 | Erasmus Habermel

In addition to the timekeeping devices in the inventory of the Prague Kunstkammer, there are some 120 instruments for calculating and measuring the Earth and the Cosmos: dividers, rulers, drawing instruments, compasses, astrolabes and quadrants of silver, brass and iron. The most important devices were made by the imperial instrument-maker Erasmus Habermel. They were highly valued by Tycho Brahe, an astronomer who also worked at the court of Rudolf II.
