Archduke Ferdinand II from Tyrol with a Dog

Archduke Ferdinand II not only had numerous portraits of himself painted, he also collected depictions of personalities he found interesting: relatives, princes, war heroes and saints as well as giants, dwarfs, and “hair people.” Around 1000 small portraits from this collection are today exhibited in the Coin Cabinet of the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
