Apotheosis of Emperor Leopold I

dated 1700 | Christoph Maucher

With his son and successor Joseph I at his side, the emperor is enthroned over his Ottoman opponents and the symbols of evil. Inscribed banderoles on the base list the battles successfully led in his name. Angels with insignia and the personifications of providence and just vengeance refer to the divine grace by which the emperor’s rule and victories are sustained.
