ca. 1480, Attributed to: Andrea Mantegna
This extraordinary work combines the qualities of painting with those of relief sculpture. Both the frieze composition informed by classical models and the handling of the figures with their expressive features and gestures probably derive from Andrea Mantegna, who was active at the court in Mantua as a painter. There are also records of Mantegna working as a sculptor.
