Early Dynastic burial

Bier for a contracted burial. Short beds like this one were used as biers in tombs of the Early Dynastic Period. Traces still remain of the leather thongs used to tie the legs to the frame. Wedges secured the net-like webbing threaded through holes in the frame. The legs imitate a bull’s hoofs; the posts terminate in lotus blossoms.
